Tattoo permissions

1. Do you let people get your work tattooed on their skin?

If you are interested in getting a tattoo of one of my drawings, you can get it done at your local tattoo studio (if your artist would be willing to tattoo someone else’s work), but I ask you to make a small contribution payment to support me and my future art. Once you purchase the right to a design (here), it is considered reserved and it’s not available for other purchases anymore, since I want to prevent more people having a same tattoo. A tattoo should be a personal thing, something very intimate, so one design is for one tattoo only.

After your purchase is made, you will get a digital copy (.jpeg) of a chosen design via e-mail, as well as a written permission to use it as a tattoo, which you can show to your tattoo artist. Please be aware that you’re buying a non-exclusive right to my design and you may only print it as a tattoo template, but you may not sell it, modify it, make copies or use it for other purposes. A non-exclusive right means that I still maintain the full right to my artwork, and I can publicly showcase it, make prints, pins, magnets or other products for selling purposes if I wish.

If you want an original and unique design made just for you, read the answer to a question below or get in touch with me.

Please note that all drawings I’ve posted here or on my social media become an open source basically to everybody. The internet can be rewarding and also infuriating when it comes to putting your work online, since it can be easily ripped off. It might happen that somebody has already tattooed some of my work without asking my permission or without even notifying me. Unfortunately, I can’t do anything to stop anyone from getting my work tattooed without my consent.

I’d really appreciate it if you don’t treat my work as if it was a free tattoo flash art, out of respect for me, those who have already bought the rights, as well as my commissioners, who were kind enough to pay me to make something custom for them and then allow me to share it with everyone.

You can see available designs in my Facebook or Instagram gallery. I kindly ask you to contact me with a picture/screenshot of your preferred design or if you have any concerns regarding this subject before you make a purchase.

Commissioned work

2. Do you take custom orders?

Yes, I do! If you want an original and unique design made just for you (or for your dearest people), get in touch with me on e-mail and I’ll get back to you asap. I do illustrations for various applications, such as apparel, book and CD covers, logo designs, original artworks, tattoo designs etc. Design work is determined on an hourly basis and the price can vary depending on the size and complexity of your design, as well as the usage rights (if it’s for a private or a commercial usage).

Simply message me on hello@brokenisntbad.com, with your description of what you are looking for. You can include some reference photos, a sketch, a quote, a poem or anything you consider useful to help me visualise your idea.

3. Can you draw me something for free?

Unfortunately no, I can’t. Just because someone is passionate in doing art, it doesn’t mean they’re willing to put their soul and time into a commission work and get nothing from it. Art is my full time job and I also have bills to pay and earn my living. Asking me if I can draw a design based on your idea for free can be a bit frustrating and demotivating.

As someone wise once said:

When you buy something from an artist you’re buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing, you’re buying a piece of a soul, a small piece of someone else’s life.

Collaborations

4. Do you do collaborations or sell licence for your work to other designers and companies?

Normally, I don’t sell license of my original work to someone who will use it on their products for selling purposes. However, I might do some kind of collaboration where I would ask for royalties and a written business contract. Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions or a business inquiry.

Custom prints

5. Do you offer art prints in a custom size and/or with quotes included?

If you would like to order a custom size print, you can message me and I might consider making it for you. The same goes for art prints with quotes included, posters, postcards, etc.

6. If I want to purchase an artwork from your Instagram which is not listed in your shop, what should I do?

The majority of my work displayed on Instagram is available for purchase. If your desired artwork isn’t listed here in my shop, it might be because it was a commissioned work or I still haven’t managed to publish it. Simply message me at hello@brokenisntbad.com for further information and if I give you my confirmation, you can purchase it here: “A print of your choice“.

Pre-sale and limited editions

7. What does pre-order / pre-sale mean?

Pre-order means that you are ordering a product before it’s being produced – you are basically reserving it. The pre-order products cost the same as the standard edition products. Your pre-order will not be shipped until approximately one week after the pre-order ending date (please take a look at the product’s information). You will receive an email confirmation with the tracking number (if you chose a priority shipping) as soon as your order ships.

If you purchase additional products at the same time as a pre-ordered item, those products will be shipped when the pre-ordered item ships due to my bundle policy. To receive your standard products earlier, I suggest placing a separate order from the pre-ordered item.

The date shown at the product’s information is only a guide. I will however endeavour to process your order ready for delivery to you either on the promised date or shortly afterwards. If pre-order dates change, I’ll make sure to contact you.

8. What does limited edition prints mean?

A limited edition print means that there will be a certain number of prints produced, and once they are sold, there won’t be any more available. I print my work at two different sizes and limit the number of prints to a certain number at each size. For most of my prints, there are 60 of size A5 and 30 of size A4, and newly added – 15 of size A3.

My limited edition prints are all exactly the same. Although they are not all printed at the same time, each print in an edition is printed on the same paper, with the same ink, and by the same printer. When you buy a limited edition print, it will be hand signed and numbered on the back of the print.

Please note that prints don’t come framed, but are printed to fit frames at size 21 x 29.7 cm (8.3 x 11.7 in) and 14.8 x 21 cm (5.8 x 8.3 in).

Original drawings and print production

9. What medium do you use for drawing?

Until recently my artworks were made traditionally – with pens on paper. For hand drawing I use fine line pens (UniPin or Sigma Micron and Posca) of different thickness for all of my outlining and black filling, and Uni-Ball Signo pigment pen for white details. Paper which I use for my original drawings may vary in quality, thickness and size (from A5 to A4), but it’s normally 200 gsm, semi-matte paper.

In May, 2018 I bought myself an iPad Pro and Apple pencil, so now I mostly work digitally in apps called SketchBook and ProCreate. Sometimes I also use my old Wacom graphic tablet and work directly in Adobe Photoshop. I love the possibility to experiment and sketch without the pressure to get everything right the first time and without paper waste. It also saves time that I would normally use for scanning my traditional drawing and adjusting it for printing purposes.

10. How do you digitalise your hand drawings?

The first step is to scan my original artwork as a high quality image at a minimum of 300 dpi (dots per inch), and bring it into Adobe Photoshop. Then I make some adjustments in order to get the black areas darker and white areas even whiter by bringing up the contrast. Sometimes, if I plan to print larger format prints, I may vectorise my original drawings in Adobe Illustrator to prevent grainy, blurry or pixelated images when printed. Recently, majority of my drawings are made digitally, so there is no need to digitalise them.

11. How do you produce your prints?

The original artworks are printed in three different sizes: DIN A3, DIN A4, and DIN A5 on a matte, premium-quality paper using a digital printing process to achieve prints of great quality, light fastness and stability. For more detailed specifications about sizes and prints please take a look at the product’s information.

12. What kind of paper do you use for the prints?

I use white semi-matte, premium-quality art paper. Its thickness can vary from 200 gms to 250 gsm (grams per square meter). For more detailed specifications please take a look at the product information.

Shipping

13. From where are your products shipped?

All my products are shipped from my studio in Mursko Središće, Croatia, EU.

14. When will my order be shipped?

Unless notified otherwise, your order will be sent off within 3-7 business days after it has been fully paid for. You will receive a confirmation mail once your order has been shipped. All packages are shipped via Croatian post and are sent internationally either as a Standard mail or as a Priority mail with a tracking number. Please note that the delivery time will vary depending on your location and your choice of shipment.

For more information about your orders, shipping, and delivery times take a look here. You are welcome to contact me at hello@brokenisntbad.com if you have any questions or concerns regarding this subject.

15. Do you ship to my country?

The answer is 99% yes. Broken isn’t bad ships to almost everywhere in the world. Simply place an item in your cart, select “View Cart” and then begin the checkout process. Select your country in the pull-down menu, put your address in, and the website will give you a live shipping quote.

16. Where is my shipping confirmation e-mail?

I send the confirmation email as soon as your package is shipped out (normally within 3-7 days after an order has been placed). If you haven’t received it, it is either in your trash/junk mail, or your order hasn’t shipped yet.

Feel free to reach out to me at hello@brokenisntbad.com with any questions regarding your order!

17. How do I track my order?

Please bear in mind that only priority orders can be tracked throughout the shipping process, and I cannot provide tracking info for standard shipping. The tracking number and corresponding link will be attached in the confirmation mail that you receive once your order has been shipped. Your order will be sent within a period of 3-7 days after it has been placed unless notified otherwise.

To track your package, simply enter your tracking number on the Croatian post´s official website.

18. What is your return policy?

Since Broken isn’t bad is a small one-person business, I am currently not able to offer refunds unless there is something wrong with the product you have received or if your delivery is not identical to your order (wrong item or if a product is missing). In this case, please get in touch with me within a reasonable time frame with as many details as possible, including your order number as well as a picture if there is a problem with your item. For more information about your orders, returns and refunds take a look here.

Packing

19. How do you pack your orders?

Posters, prints, booklets, greeting cards, stickers, and magnets are put in protective paper envelopes/bags and shipped in secure bubble envelopes with heavyweight cardboard protecting them from wrinkling. If you purchase more than one product, they will be shipped together in one package, unless it’s stated otherwise on a product’s page.

I do my very best to source materials and packaging which have a minimal impact on the environment. All packaging including bubble and paper envelopes are eco-friendly and FSC® certified, thus are easily recycled and safe for individuals and the environment.
